Switch Media's Letterpool project has scooped a Gold for Best Use of Typography in the prestigious Roses Advertising Awards in Manchester on Thursday night (6 May).
The Switch Media team celebrated the award in a glitzy ceremony in the city's Ramada hotel, alongside nationwide industry creatives and clients.
Letterpool celebrates the best of Liverpool's typography, exploring the city's history and culture through its signs, branding, language and graffitti. The book is the culmination of a community art project, inviting photographers to submit their favourite images; 145 winners were chosen from the thousands of entries.
Aaron Bimpson, Switch Media's commercial director, said: 'the Roses Advertising Awards showcase innovation and creativity, and are highly prestigious. Letterpool is a beautiful book that really captures Liverpool's creative language - we're really proud of both the project and the response to it. The result was overwhelming, and is a reflection of Liverpool's pride in its art, culture and heritage.'
The Roses gong is the second national award for Letterpool in November it won a Gold Fresh Award for Best Use of Typography.
Switch Media is building on the success of the project with the imminent launch of Letterpool London. Bimpson says: 'Letterpool really captured the imagination and we're hoping for as positive a reception from London's thriving creative scene as we got in Liverpool. Now it has a proven track-record, we're already speaking with some interesting London-based partners about coming on board. The first book caught the attention of Taschen's Editor in Chief Julius Wiedemann, and we've just confirmed a contribution from typography and branding heavyweight Miles Newlyn for the London edition.'
The Roses Awards are organised by industry magazine the Drum, and this years' judging panel was chaired by BMBs Trevor Beattie; famed for creating the FCUK brand for French Connection and Wonderbra's 'Hello Boys' campaign.
